Uncertainty on the future of film tax incentives in the state legislature have definitely caused production executives to reconsider filming in New Mexico based on local reports. One particular TV series has recently taken a pass on filming within the state, as a result of recent ambiguity in the future of film tax breaks. While some states are considering reducing or even stopping their incentive programs, New Mexico appears to be following suit. Gov. Susana Martinez has requested the state film incentive program to be reduced from a 25 percent rebate to a 15 % rebate. “Her attack on the movie industry has now caused some companies to reconsider their investment decisions here,” said Democratic Senator Eric Griego. A House committee just recently passed a legislation that would limit cash used on film incentives at $45 million.
