A Brief History Of Pepe Hernandez
Francisco Pepe Hernandez, was the head of a big political group, which is defined as working for Cuban interests, the CANF. Hernandez arrived as a political refugee in Miami in the early 60s and quickly became linked with the ultimately indecisive invasion of his own country at the Bay of Pigs which was coordinated by a movement that was determined to fight the regime of the all powerful Fidel Castro.
The young Cuban Hernandez first came to Miami at the start of an era of uprising in Cuba and gained membership of what has been termed a Historic Generation. The pioneering Cuban political refugees to come to the USA formed the group.
Pepe later returned to Cuba to increase his political rallying in a clandestine, often dangerous capacity offering opposition to the Castro system. Due to his impassioned opposition of the system he was sent to jail for a couple of years before going back to live again in the States
When he arrived in America, he and his compatriots only envisaged staying in the country for a brief period but, in the end, he remained there for 50 years, fighting the Castro regime from afar because it was so difficult to live in Cuba whilst being politically opposed to the incumbent government.
The majority of the settlers wanted to go back to Cuba but progressively they realized that this was unlikely to happen whilst the Castro administration was in control. For that reason, they resolved to stay in the States finding work and efficiently scaling the social ladder in the USA.
History will state that, over the next generation the settlers made a huge impact and played an important part in the progress of Miami as a big player on the map. When they first arrived, Miami was little but a quiet town in Florida, but now it is seen as the cusp of Latin America and easily one of the biggest cities in Florida and the U. S., modern and varied with a diversity of creeds and cultures dwelling there.
Through much struggle and adversity, Pepe Hernandez is regarded as a leading figure in the fight against what many describe as an oppressive regime in Cuba and continues to rally against the perceived ills of the country of his birth, whilst simultaneously acting as a spokesperson for his, still relatively fledgling, community that has settled in America. He is revered by many of his countrymen in a country divided for many decades by the system of government. Read more about: pepe hernandez
